This month's Tired Eyes Book Club pick is Queen of Cuba : an FBI agent's insider account of the spy who evaded detection for 17 years by Peter J Lapp (2023).

You can pick up a copy to borrow at the Voorhees Branch.

Summary: Ana Montes defied expectations: most spies were either men or part of a couple. She took no money or gifts for the gig. The Cubans recruited her while she was still in graduate school and likely played on her need to feel like she was looking out for "the little guy" against the "big bully" United States. But retired FBI agent Peter J. Lapp believes she likely got people killed. including a Green Beret working in Nicaragua. Over the years, she fed every move the U.S. military made in Latin America to Fidel Castro; she named as many as four hundred U.S. intelligence agents; and she influence each administration's policies on Cuba. This is Ana's story, but it's also the story of an FBI agent who co-lead the investigation into Ana and grew through his career as a soldier, police office, and FBI agent.
