(A) Chinese Brush Painting with Jane Chang

Come explore the art of Chinese brush painting with Jane Chang. She works in the Xieyi style of Chinese brush painting which forgoes precise representation. “Xieyi is a freehand, spontaneous, loose, and often exaggerated style of painting,” said Jane. “We focus on the expression of the artist’s feelings and impressions, and on the harmony the artist feels with the subject matter.” Jane will begin with a demonstration and discussion, introducing the traditions of Chinese brush painting, sharing examples, and giving a painting demonstration talking about composition, technique, and materials. Then under Jane’s guidance, participants will create their own plein air brush painting in the Chinese manner.
