Every child will be given at least 10 minutes of private time to read. Space is limited, and registration starts 7 days prior to this weekly event.

(A) Indie Lens Pop-Up Virtual Screening & Discussion: The Donut King

The Donut King, by Alice Gu, is Ted Ngoy's rags to riches story of a refugee escaping Cambodia, arriving in America in 1975, and building an unlikely multimillion-dollar empire baking America’s favorite pastry, the donut. Ngoy sponsored hundreds of visas for incoming refugees and helped them get on their feet teaching them the ways of the donut business. By 1979, he was living the American Dream—but a great rise often comes with a great fall.

This film premieres on Independent Lens on May 24. Indie Lens Pop-Up screenings bring communities together to watch and discuss documentaries about some of the most important issues of our time.

Running time: 86 minutes, followed by discussion.

Each week, we will select an in independent, foreign, award winning, or classic film and have interesting discussions. This weeks film is "Glengarry Glen Ross" starring Al Pacino, Alec Baldwin, and Jack Lemmon. Meeting will take place on Zoom and an email will be sent one day prior.
