Saturday, February 15, 2025 2:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.
In The Strength of Courage, a work of historical fiction, young African-American soldier David Henry honors his country in World War II and nearly meets his fate on the battle fields of Europe and Africa. Volunteering to fight in the Korean War in 1950, he is captured by the enemy, but his sheer will to survive and love for his family allow him to survive the ordeal and return home to tell his story and raise a family.
Decades later, Master Sgt. Henry is finally able to begin recounting the harrowing, traumatic events that left him mentally and physically scarred from surviving two wars. After striking up a friendship with a fellow fisherman, Henry confides in him the experiences that have haunted him since the last war ended. Both men learn each has suffered trauma and that friendship is a bond based on honor and mutual trust.
