Event Description

Ages 9-12.  In celebration of Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, Tween Snack n' Chat is discussing Front Desk by Kelly Yang. We will discuss the book, enjoy a snack and complete a fun book-related activity.  We have a limited number of free library copies.

Winner of the 2019 Asian Pacific American Award for Literature, Front Desk tells the tale of Mia, a young Chinese immigrant, who is determined to help her parents when they become managers of the Calivista motel. It's the details that sing in this novel, particularly the small moments that feel like everything when you're a kid...This book will help foster empathy for the immigrant experience for young readers, while for immigrant children, it is a much-needed and validating mirror.
